Last night music fans at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater in Tampa were treated to spectacular performances by both Amy Lee of Evanescence and Lindsey Stirling. The show began as Amy Lee backed by a full orchestra made her way to the front in a beautiful flowing red dress. Bathed in spotlights with a wall of giant screens animated behind the entire production, the crowd came alive as Amy Lee began to sing. The scene was reminiscent of the speakeasy’s of yesteryear. The crowd responded enthusiastically to the pageantry of the show and the talent of both Amy Lee’s vocals and the skill of the orchestra that so eloquently enhanced them. Amy Lee’s vocal range is powerful and at times silky smooth almost drawing the listener in hypnotically. Like wine her voice has only gotten better over time.

Unlike Amy Lee’s set which started softly and built to a cresendo, Lindsey Stirlings show erupted on stage. If asked to describe Lindsey Stirling’s show I would say, one part music, one part special effects, and one part aerobics. As a photographer my goal is to capture the movement, the energy and the flow of the performance. Lindsey’s skill as a violinist is equally matched by her both physical and high energy performance. She physically sprinted from song to song, dancing, jumping and perfoming gymnastic movements without missing a beat. The stage show was stellar as well. During the second song of the set the stage became a giant grave yard complete with giant comically engraved headstones. With talented back up dancers and musicians to match you could easily see the Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” influence. The crowd was both receptive and loudly displayed their approval by the applause at the end of each song. Although both performers had different approaches and styles, the combination of the two made for an amazing evening for those lucky enough to have attended the packed house at the AMP.
