Third Eye Blind – The Gods Of Summer Tour

The Gods of Summer 2019 Tour hit the halfway point in Wallingford, Connecticut at the Toyota Oakdale Theater. The tour is headlined by Third Eye Blind with support from Jimmy Eat World and Ra Ra Riot. The bands are wildly popular. Therefore, the house was crowded this evening.

Opening the show was Syracuse, NY’s Ra Ra Riot. This indie rock band began in 2006 and has released 4 studio albums with a fifth release titled “SUPERBLOOM” available on August 9th. The band consists of a standard rock band line up with the addition of a violin. As a result of this somewhat unique addition, they have a fairly unique sound for a rock show. The audience was ready for a rollicking evening because of Ra Ra Riot’s lively and energetic set.

Jimmy Eat World followed next on this action-packed bill. Formed in Mesa, Arizona in 1993, they have released 9 albums over their 26 year career. Many in the audience on their feet because of the enthusiastic power pop/power punk set they delivered. Their last album, “Integrity Blues” was released in 2016. Because it has been several years since their last release, the evening was a stroll down memory lane more of less. They played many of their popular songs through the night. But to the delight of their fans, they ended their time on stage with their most popular hit, “The Middle”.

Rounding out the show was San Francisco’s Third Eye Blind. Five alt-rock albums have been released by the band since forming in 1993. They took the stage performing “Screamer” behind a curtain while being back-lit. Because of the lighting, distorted shadows were eerily cast upon the curtain which set the stage for a show for a visually compelling evening. The visual aspect of the show was strong, but it didn’t overshadow the music that the band delivered. Stephan Jenkins is the vocalist and sole original member. His voice has remained as powerful as it was when the band started. Because of this, the Third Eye Blind sound is still unmistakable.
