Thievery Corporation Turns Up The Heat With Their Winter Tour

Thievery Corporation is ending 2022 with a bang. They are bringing their groundbreaking version of electronic sound up and down the eastern US. Music Madness caught them on their tour opener at College Street Music Hall in New Haven, CT.

Most of the tour is featuring Emancipator kicking off the night. However, New Haven was treated to the eclectic sounds of Lucius Arthur. The crowd was a-buzz as the 3-person outfit filled the house with sound. Backed merely by laptop-driven electronics and a drum kit, the sound was upbeat and lush. One could tell Arthur was enjoying the response of the crowd. His influences are wide-ranging and he brings them all together in a unique amalgam. His first album “A Violent Dichotomy” has just been released and is certainly worth a listen.

The house was mobbed by the time Thievery Corporation hit the stage. They have commanded a lot of attention since the duo of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton teamed up in 1995. As with Lucius Arthur, their influences cover a wide spectrum. The pair would scour record stores in search of international recordings which lent themselves to creating the nonconformist sound that is Thievery Corporation.

On stage, the band is a conglomeration of very talented musicians. Their live shows are known as musical journeys and this night in New Haven was no exception. Instrument changes, including a sitar, give their fans fresh sounds throughout the show. In addition to the instrument change-ups, there is a rotating platoon of singers. Each one brings a unique vocal style from hip-hop to reggae to funk and points in between.

Thievery Corporation spreads a feeling of love and inclusion with its music. Fans danced, sang, and sweat along with the band from start to finish. It was a Saturday night party like no other. Join the party while there is still time left. Remaining dates below
