The Struts recently brought their “Remember The Name” tour to Boston’s House of Blues. While not a sell-out, the crowd was large and quite enthusiastic for a Tuesday night. Legendary guitarist Peter Frampton was across the street at MGM Music Hall at Fenway on the same evening. There is no doubt that the crowd at HOB was treated to a much livelier and more energetic show, no offense to the elder statesman of rock.
Hailing from Detroit, Mac Saturn opened the night with a bang. They have been delivering their energetic 70’s sounding rock to fans old and new since 2014. They all have their own stage presence and they blend nicely but up front, lead singer Carson Macc commands the show. He is flashy but not too over the top. Macc engaged the crowd and the fans responded by singing along and dancing wildly. The band set the crowd up nicely for the headliners.
The Struts are a rock/glam rock band from the UK. They have been around for 11 years and their fan base keeps growing. They took the stage and the crowd erupted. The frenzy that the audience displayed was non-stop. Like their opening act, their fan base keeps steadily growing. Given the high-energy performance this quartet puts forth, it’s no surprise!
Lead singer, Luke Spiller grabs the audience’s attention and holds it tight. He struts about the stage with the brashness of Mick Jagger and has the charm and character of Tim Curry. Yes, and odd comparison but watch Curry’s “I Do The Rock” and you’ll agree. Dressed in black with silver sequins, white high-heeled boots, and wearing glitter eye makeup, Spiller looked every bit like a 70’s glam rocker transported 50 years into the future. The band got their name due to how Spiller “struts” about during performances.
Spiller is backed by a more than capable lineup of outstanding musicians. Adam Slack, also adorned with a sequined black outfit, has flowing blonde curls which fly about as he madly attacks his guitar. The rhythm section of bassist Jed Elliot and drummer Gethin Davies deliver powerful backbeats while holding the band firmly in place.
Given the band’s limitless energy and their ability to extract tremendous responses from their audiences, it’s no wonder they have had gigs opening for none other than The Rolling Stones and Foo Fighters. In fact, Dave Grohl said they are one of the best support acts the Foo Fighters have ever had when it comes to their ability to captivate audiences in the States. No small praise from an industry heavyweight.
The first US leg of the Remember The Name tour is coming to an end. The Struts will continue to play several gigs in Europe. Take heart fans of Mac Saturn, they will rejoin The Struts for round two of the US tour in November! If you’re a fan of high-energy rock or love to revel in a sea of fans who fanatically relish what is presented to them, do NOT miss a Struts show if they come to a town near you. In fact, they are a band worth traveling for in our opinion! Here are upcoming Struts TOUR DATES
