Stone Temple Pilots Are As Big And Bad As Ever!

People always ask me, “Who are you photographing this weekend?” When I told them I was covering Stone Temple Pilots, many folks seemed surprised. “I didn’t know they were still a band” was a common response. STP fans know that they are certainly still a band and they are as good or better than they ever were! Their concerts will convince anyone who doubts that statement.

People have a misconception about bands who lose their hit making singer. Because the voice is gone, they feel that they are no longer the same and “not worth the time”.  This is obviously untrue. Take a look at the popularity of Queen with Adam Lambert and the Brian Johnson years of AC/DC. These bands have proven that a strong band can anchor a good lead singer in their musical port so to speak. The same certainly holds true with STP. Lead singer Jeff Gutt took over the vocal reigns of the band in 2017 and they haven’t looked back. The original band consisting of the DeLeo brothers, Dean on guitar and Robert on bass, and Eric Kretz on the drums, show they still have what it takes to be a big name rock & roll band. They obviously take pride in what they’ve done and what they are doing!

STP recently played to a packed house at the Fox Theater at Foxwoods Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. Their set list included all of the STP classics that fans know and love. Gutt handled the vocals in stellar fashion as the band executed their role flawlessly. The band also performed songs from their latest release, 2018’s “Stone Temple Pilots” which was recorded with Gutt on vocals. Because they are every bit as hard hitting as older songs from their catalog, “Meadow” and “Roll Me Under”, fit right in with the rest of the set. STP brought a compelling light show with them. Their performance was visually enhanced by the stunning display.

The band will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of it’s hit second album, “Purple”. On October 18th there will be a release of various versions of the remastered album. A super deluxe edition of “Purple” which will consist of 3 CDs and 1 LP. It will feature an unreleased live concert recorded in 1994 in New Haven, Connecticut.  The release features both electric and acoustic sets which include 10 songs from the album “Purple” which was released that same year.

Do not miss STP in concert! The band is presently on a tour across the US through the middle of October. They will also be heading to Australia in 2020 on a co-headlining bill with +LIVE+ and Bush called the “Under The Southern Stars” tour. This tour includes 11 dates in the month of April. This tour of The Land Down Under is unique. We say it’s unique because it will be hitting some of the out of the way towns while bypassing the big cities of Sydney & Melbourne.  A list of tour dates and locations is available here —-  STP Tour Dates
