Rockin’ at The Ranch with Scott Stapp

93X teamed up with Filthy Nasty Productions to bring Scott Stapp and his The Space Between The Shadows Tour to the Ranch Concert Hall in Fort Myers, FL. Also appearing on this fun filled night of rock n’ roll were Emerge, Sunflower Dead and Messer.

Emerge hit the stage first and they didn’t waste any time getting the crowd riled up! They kicked their set off with “Watch Me Bleed” , You can check that out here. They followed up with “Divide“, “Keep this Alive“, “What You Want It To Be”, “Life Worth Living” and finished off their badass set with “The Truth“. All of these songs can be found on their latest album, A New Horizon, which was released this past January.

These Chattanooga/Nashville based musicians are great at what they do, so if you see that they’re going to be at a show near you, ya best go out and see them!!

Up next on stage was none other than Southern California based Sunflower Dead who proceeded to blast our ears with some sweet tunes. These guys have been rocking hard since 2012 and have opened for Korn, In This Moment, Avatar, Hellyeah, among others and most recently with Scott Stapp.

They played a great mix of songs that they’ve produced through the years with three albums. Half of the songs they played came off their latest album, C O M A which was released in October of last year. This is one raw, heavy hitting album for sure! “Turn Away” was a little different from the others, a great power ballad if you will. They do have a video for it which you can see here.

All in all, Sunflower Dead gave us one amazing set! Michael’s vocals and stage presence are top notch. The other band members were equally impressive on their deliveries as well. One thing that took me by surprise, was when Michael brought out the accordion. A freakin’ accordion at a rock show?!?! Not many people would be able to pull that off as well as they did.

Sunflower Dead Lineup: Michael Del Pizzo ~ Vocals/Accordion, Jaboo ~ Lead Guitar, Jamie Teissere ~ Guitar, John Calo ~ Bass, Brett Weir ~ Drums

Sunflower Dead Setlist:

  1. Turn Away
  2. The Biggest Mistake
  3. Savior
  4. Through the Fire
  5. Counting All My Failures
  6. You’re Dead To Me
  7. Victim

Messer took the stage over, much to the delight of the many new fans they have obtained in SWFL over the past year. We’re kind of biased when it comes to Messer, we’ve been fortunate enough to see and capture them a few times this year. Show after show and they never disappoint, it’s always high-energy with some of their best material.

We like all of their songs but tops would be “Simple Man.” This hard-driving song just gets your blood flowing and judging by the number of views this song has received others feel the same way. The band had over 155K views for it on YouTube. If you have not seen it, check it out here. Be sure to subscribe to their YouTube channel where they have other videos as well as live feeds from their shows.

One of the many things that impresses me about Messer is how they setup to tour. Javier, Donnie and Maddox all have really nice rolling cases that store all their gear, which does not take up much room on the stage. Everything, and I mean everything, is setup so professionally and it takes them no time at all to load in and load out. These guys are touring professionals!

Messer Lineup:

Dereak Messer ~ Vocals, Javier Contreras ~ Guitar/Vocals, Donnie DeVille ~ Guitar/Vocals, Maddox Messer ~ Bass/Vocals, and Kenn Youngar ~ Drums

Messer Setlist:

  1. Everything Beautiful
  2. Still Better Off
  3. Make This Life
  4. Fight of My Life
  5. One More Time
  6. Save Myself
  7. Lay Down Your Heart
  8. Simple Man
  9. Throw it Away

When Scott Stapp took to the stage in the manner he did, you knew damn well he was back. We all know what happened in the past and after seeing this show you can rest assured that the past is the past. In July, Stapp released his album, titled Space Between the Shadows via Napalm Records. He’s been quoted as saying that this album symbolizes everything he has been through the last few years.

One song off the new album, “Gone too Soon” is a pretty moving piece about his friends; Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell, and Scott Weiland. You can see the video for that song here. The first single off the new album was “Purpose for Pain“, which was released in April. You can check out the rockin’ video for this song here. The album is vintage, powerful Scott Stapp and is sure to please old and new fans out there.

This was a very high energy show filled with lots of fog, lights and everyone running around the stage giving the crowd exactly what they wanted. Stapp’s energy was high, he interacted with the crowd at the front of the stage and he absolutely sang his ass off without missing a beat. Yiannis was an absolute blast to watch as he did everything he could to squeeze those notes out of his guitar. Ben, Sammy and Dango sounded great as well and they sure put everything they had into it!

The Space Between the Shadows Tour has been going strong since June 20th when it kicked off in Oshkosh, WI. There’s just a couple more dates left in Florida before they head off to South America.

Band members: Scott Stapp ~ Lead Vocals, Yiannis Papadopoulos ~ Lead Guitar, Ben Flanders ~ Guitar, Sammy Hudson ~ Bass and Dango Cellan ~ Drums
