Festivals come and go, year in and out some fade as others continually push the envelope. The 2021 festival season was one that struggled entering the year due to the continued uncertainty surrounding the pandemic. Festivals repeatedly pushed back event dates and struggled to maintain original lineups as fans were bombarded with a year’s worth of festival options in a six-month window. The sixth annual Reggae Rise Up Florida festival was postponed a total of three times during the pandemic, moving its annual March event to October at the scenic Vinoy Park, a waterfront venue in downtown St. Petersburg.
The sold-out event displayed some of Reggae’s finest musicians mixed with artists that created their masterpieces throughout the weekend and an eclectic group of sponsors and vendors scattered throughout the grounds. The Sugarshack Sessions created an incredible waterfront stage for fans to enjoy an intimate acoustic setting that saw impromptu sets by bands like Hirie, Badfish, Fortunate Youth, The Ries Brothers, and The Elovaters to name a few.
