Halfway through their grinding Fall tour, Fit For A King and The Devil Wears Prada brought their Metalcore Dropouts tour to the venerable Palladium in Worcester, Mass. Always known for its packed houses and enthusiastic crowds, this night was no exception! The house was packed before the show even started, not bad for a mid-week concert.
The metalcore band from Marseille France, Landmvrks took the stage first. Formed in 2014, they have released 3 albums to date. Lead singer Florent Salfati performed with the savvy of a singer with a multi-decade career. His energy was infectious as he criss-crossed the stage, setting the audience up for a frantic night of hard-hitting music. The rest of the band was also in constant motion which accented the power of their music.
After a fairly brief intermission, Hamilton, Ontario’s Counterparts took command of the stage. Formed in 2007, these prolific rockers have released 9 albums since 2010. Lead singer Brendan Murphy’s thunderous vocals kicked the mosh pit and crowd surfers into high gear and there was no stopping them. The energy level was high as both opening acts set the stage for the co-headliners!
The Devil Wears Prada turned the excitement level up to 11 as soon as they took the stage. Formed in Dayton Ohio in 2005, these veterans of metalcore have released 8 studio albums. A special note, back in December of 2011, the band recorded a live album, “Dead & Alive”, in the very same venue they played this evening. The homecoming of sorts seemed to really fire up TDWP as they ripped through their 13-song set.
They had a first-class light show that highlighted the energy they were putting out. Frontman Mike Hranica along with guitarists Jeremy DePoyster and Kyle Sipress stalked the stage, often taking to the riser at the back of the stage with occasional leaps to the stage.
The set combined powerful music, impressive visuals, and a sense of camaraderie among fans, creating an unforgettable night of heavy music and intense energy. TDWP is known for their tight and powerful live performances and this evening was no different. Mike Hranica’s aggressive vocals and the band’s dual-guitar attack created a cacophonous but highly melodic sound that sent a wave of energy through the crowd. Jeremy DePoyster provides clean vocals, which add depth to their music and offer a nice contrast to Hranica’s screams. The band’s energetic stage presence, headbanging, and interaction with the crowd are second to none as they leave it all up on that stage.
Not to be outdone, Fit For A King delivered a raucous 13-song set, starting with the hell-raising “Annihilation”. From the thunderous drum opening to the end of their set, FFAK had the Palladium in the palms of their hands. Formed in Texas in 2007, these masters of metalcore have released 7 albums, each as powerful as the last.
Vocalist Ryan Kirby was a menacing figure as he prowled the stage. Not to be outdone, bassist Ryan “Tuck” O’Leary took to the air with his usual high-flying guitar-twirling antics. The boisterous crowd seemed to really fuel the fire of FFAK. In turn, the energy of the crowd kept ramping up in a fervorous spiral.
Fit For a King’s lyrics often touch on personal struggles, mental health, and resilience, resonating with many fans. The emotional depth of their music is particularly evident during live performances, where the intensity of the music and the connection with the crowd can be emotionally moving.
Fans of metal music should not miss this tour (or any other by these four bands). They really bring their A game and deliver a powerful set sure to please all from the most hardcore metalcore fans to those just entering the realm. For the remaining dates of Metalcore Dropouts, click HERE.
