Legendary Jim Messina Graces Connecticut!

Jim Messina played back to back shows at both Infinity Hall & Bistro in Norfolk and Infinity Hall in Hartford. Music Madness was able to take in his Hartford performance and it was an amazing show from start to finish. One might think that playing back to back shows in the same state is a risky move and it would be for most performers. However, this is not the case for this critically claimed musician. Even though it was a Sunday evening and many had to go to work the next day, Messina and his band played to an abundant crowd.

Early in his career, Messina worked with the widely popular Buffalo Springfield as both engineer and bass player. After the band’s breakup, Messina went on to be a founding member of the country rock band Poco. In the early 70’s, Messina joined forces with Kenny Loggins to form the pop-rock duo of Loggins and Messina.  A wide array of songs from throughout Messina’s career were played. The whole show was enjoyable from start to finish without a dull moment.

The lineup Messina  brought to Connecticut was as solid as any. All musicians were tenacious but not overpowering. Their sounds melded harmoniously as Messina captained the ship. Craig Thomas was amazing on woodwinds with violinist/guitar player Gary Oleyar filling in lead/backing sounds. Michael Brady on bass with Dave Beyer held down the rhythm section with clockwork precision. The band was a joy to watch. They were a joy because they exuded a feeling of love for what they were doing. What they were doing was delivering a memorable performance along with a noteworthy musician who is a household name to anyone who listened to music in the late 60’s and beyond.

Messina and company are on tour in the Eastern US. Make your way to see one of their shows and you will NOT be disappointed! Follow the link here to see if they are playing near you.
