The GWAR invasion in Nashville that took over Exit In for the ‘Use Your Collusion Tour‘ on Monday Nov 5th left the venue and fans soaked with creature blood and other bodily fluids from the “Scumdogs of the Universe”. By the end of the night there was not too many that had not been touched by some type of liquid protruding from the stage.
The show opener, Against the Grain, cannot be categorized into one genre of music because they are a blend of punk, rock and thrash metal with their music getting faster and heavier through out the years. Their latest album Road Warriors is their 4th record released by Self-Destructo Records.
Toxic Holocaust was next up and had the crowd destroying the area with a circle pit that transformed into one massive mosh pit. Their latest album is titled Primal Future: 2019 which was released on October 4th. Here’s what Grind had to say about the album, “I went back to my roots and recorded this entire album by myself and play all of the instruments like I did in the early days. It was a lot of fun and nostalgic and at the same time exciting to be able to apply everything I’ve learned over the years.”
Things tone down a bit when Sacred Reich took the stage. Their music is along the lines of socially conscious and political speed metal. They had past member Dave McClain (Ex-Machine Head Drummer) rejoin the band on drums and added new guitarist, Joey Radziwill. The band recently released “Awakening” on August 23rd, which is their 5th album through Metal Band Records.
Finally the long awaited GWAR took the stage. As fans raised their horns, the blood started pouring from the stage. Those that were unaware of what was to come quickly found out before the first note was even played. Their distinctively grotesque costumes that portray them as barbaric interplanetary warriors and over the top portrayals of current social and political satire create a special kind of atmosphere.
Some of the portrayals tonight included chopping heads off, insertion of objects into body cavities, onstage c-section of “Kaitlyn Gender”, the “Sawborg”, Sawing “Dickie Duncan” in half, Blöthar’s personal touch of his own special sauce and more.
This was one of the most interesting and disturbing shows I have ever been to and I loved every disturbing and horrific moment of it. The stained clothing and skin will eventually fade away but the images and memories of what happened this night will stay a permanent stain inside everyone’s mind. Check out their latest album The Blood of the Gods.
