Electric Six Has The Power!

It was a hot and humid night in Connecticut. That didn’t keep the sold-out crowd from packing into New Haven Connecticut’s premier small rock club, Cafe 9. The patrons were there to see the fun rockers from Detroit, Electric Six and were not disappointed.

Opening the show was the exciting duo called VOLK.  This rocking duo was formed in Berlin but now resides in Nashville. VOLK packs more energy and sound into their shows than a much larger band.  There is a comparison to the White Stripes as the band consists of a female drummer, Eleot Reich, and male guitarist, Chris Lowe. However, that’s where the comparison ends. That’s because VOLK is far cooler than the White Stripes ever dreamed they could be! Dressed in cool Western attire complete with cowboy hats, their blistering brand of cow punk is reminiscent of the high-energy early years of Jason & The Scorchers. They also throw a touch of psychedelia into the mix for good measure to keep the listeners wondering just what’s coming next.

VOLK are on the road promoting their debut full-length album, Cashville. The tongue-in-cheek jab at the commercialization of country music is as powerful as their live performance, minus the sweat. It’s a shame that bands like VOLK don’t get more attention than they usually do.  Those bands are what rock and roll is all about. Their social media contacts are listed below. Do yourself a huge favor and follow them, buy their album, and see them live!

Speaking of what rock and roll is all about, the headliners from Detroit, Electric Six fit that title too but in a different way. Their five-man sound is a cleaner soul/garage/straight-up rock and roll based sound. They are led by frontman and founder Dick Valentine who has both a cheesy grin and stud-like air of confidence. This band clearly has fun doing what they do! One would have to enjoy it doing it for as long as they have.  To paraphrase new drummer Dr. J aka “Jimmy Von Boom”, they are a band that takes their music seriously but not themselves. Formed in 1996, these prolific road warriors have put out countless albums in their 25 years.  They have grown a dedicated fan base over the years as the sold-out venue indicated.

Electric Six started off their set on the slower side but built to a fevered pitch and the crowd responded wildly! They packed the floor at the front of the stage and danced like no one was watching, a photographer’s nightmare. It was obvious they were being watched as the band responded to their adoring fans with a frenzied set of powerful tunes. By the end of the show, sweat poured from the band and their followers equally and everyone was happy! This is a band that the post-pandemic world needs!

For those of you who are not familiar with Electric Six, take heart. As mentioned, they are true road warriors. They are touring almost non-stop across the US and Europe during the rest of 2021. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to see them. Rumor has it, there is a large tour looming in 2022 (which is no surprise) so keep your eyes open!!!  Tour dates —-> HERE   GO SEE THEM!!!!!  Social media contacts are below. Follow them!
