Bad Blood, who’s debut record is set for release on July 26, 2019 has already been extremely successful in landing several major syncs with their music in commercials and video games with major brands.
Partnering with new music app Vezt, allows users to buy in on songwriting and publishing rights, fans will be able to earn royalties and get paid every time they listen and promote their favorite music on social media.
“It’s a win for everyone involved”, said Chris Clemence, one of the founders and songwriters of Bad Blood.
“We’re not selling songs, we’re selling ownership. Once you buy in, you’ll be able to earn royalties just for listening to our record. And the more you promote the band and the record which you own a part of, the more earning potential you have. It’s like buying stock in your favorite artist. This is the new revolution. It’s a chance to own part of your favorite music.”
“It’s amazing the response we’ve gotten and the record isn’t even out yet. This is definitely great news for our future rights holders who own a piece of our record on Vezt.
All the members in this band have already had big songs, #1s on the charts, so I’m really looking forward to getting this record out and having it be great not only for us, but for our fans too. We owe it all to them at the end of the day.”
“The new record slams on all cylinders. Theme music to rise above and conquer!” added vocalist Chad Cherry.
Bad Blood Mini Documentary and first upcoming single “Drug That I Need“…
Bad Blood is Chris Iorio, Chad Cherry, Kenny Borill, and Chris Clemence.
Music Madness Magazine caught up with the band’s bassist Chris Clemence.
Music Madness: Is Bad Blood going to be a side project or do you think this thing’s got enough momentum to morph into something bigger?
Chris: I think that’s kind of what’s happening right now. It started as a project and then organically hanging out with the guys in the studio. We all vibed really well, we all worked together really well. The ideas were flowing. We were like why don’t we turn this into a band.
We just posted a little teaser video of us in the studio, working on the new record and it is already getting attention, everyone is talking about it, and we’re putting the record out July 26.
Music Madness:: Awesome. I watched the mini documentary which was a cool way to introduce the band. Was the mini documentary done by design?
Chris: Yeah, that’s going to be the first single, “Drug That I Need“. We were just in the studio and got some footage of us recording it and then it turned into that mini doc promo that you saw.
Music Madness: It was a great way to introduce the band. Especially with each member having been involved with other bands and projects.
Chris: Yeah, I mean we have our fans from Adelitas Way, we have our fans from The Last Vegas, we have fans from Screaming At Demons and RapScallions. So we’re bringing all that together. We’re just kind of getting the word out like… hey we are all from these different bands, we teamed up and now we’re called Bad Blood.
Music Madness: Very cool. I enjoyed the new song “Drug That I Need“. In the era of rock subgenres and subgenres of subgenres, it was just a good, kick-ass rock ‘and roll song. It didn’t really need a subgenre…it was just good ole rock and roll.
Chris: Thanks very much. That’s what we do, you know. We don’t need to overcomplicate things, just put out a nice hard-hitting rock song. There’s definite an audience for it and I think its being ignored for the most part by a lot of labels and just kind of what’s shoved down everyone’s throat radio-wise today. People are still hungry for it. The proofs in the pudding, like even here in LA last weekend, the Misfits played, packing out the Bank of America Center, like people still crave raw rock ‘and roll.
Music Madness: Absolutely. The sound stuck with me right away. It had this familiar feel to it that reminded me of my youth and I was like fuck yeah.
Chris: Thanks man. Yah, you know the production is pretty modern if you look at a lot of the sounds that we’re using. We even threw stuff that is kind of like cinematic elements and different things, but at the heart of it, the songs are just pure gritty rock and roll. I think that when we combine the two, it’s kind of like a new flair capturing that old spirit but doing it in the modern way.
Music Madness: The band partnered with this new music app, Vezt. Can you tell us about the significance of this partnership?
Chris: It is a very strategic thing that we’re planning out. As a music fan and consumer yourself, you know that most people are streaming music these days. Not a lot of people are buying records. Even Apple is shutting down iTunes. It’s just a sign of the times. And I really think that more than some record company owning a part of our songs or all of the songs…why not reward our fans by helping them share in the ownership of our songs.
If you owned some of your favorite songs you’d be more apt to listen to it more or tell your friends about it more, because every time you do, you’re making money off of that and sharing in the royalties with us as a band. I think it’s just kind of the future of the music business, its fan ownership and then having them be stakeholders in those rights and helping as a team. The band and fans promoting it as much as possible and everybody wins.
Music Madness: Oh man, that’s brilliant. So the new album comes out at the end of the month and its already getting a lot of traction which has to be exciting.
Chris: Oh, yeah. We’ve already landed some big licenses with Bentley, with William Henry Jewelry, with this video game Mutant Football League that’s out now on PlayStation and X-Box before we even release the record.
So for everyone that is going to be buying in on this, it’s already great news because the album already has a lot of value to it and it’s not even out. Once it’s out, it’s going to be pushed even more and get more placements and more plays, and the value is going to keep growing and growing and growing.
Music Madness: I love it when you see something new just take off and watch it morph into something bigger than life. That shit’s really cool.
Chris: Yah man. It’s an exciting time. Music licensing has always been a great way for the artists and the right holders of the music to make money, putting it in not only video games but television and movies.
I have a song “Let’s Go” that’s a big sports anthem. It’s the anthem for the New York Giants, Rangers, and Knicks. It’s been amazing. I put that song up on Vezt and within a day it was sold out by fans of people who knew the song, bought into it, and we’re all going to see the rewards of that. So that’s kind of why we wanted to go that route with this record. It’s just a win for everybody. It’s so much better this way.
Music Madness: Very cool. So the important question…you have new music but when do we get to see the live product? Any touring news?
Chris: Oh absolutely. Right now we’re actually lining up dates. Our first live performance will be on July 26. We’re doing a release party at a secret location in LA. It’s going to be an exclusive VIP event so just for our friends and people in the industry close to us will get to see the band live for the first time and launch the record.
As soon as the record’s out, we’ll be announcing several live dates we have coming up. You can check our upcoming website that we’re going to be putting up; it’s just badbloodband.com. That’s going to have al the tour dates so you can check out when we’re near you and come see us and hang out.
Music Madness: Hell yeah man. Don’t forget us Florida folks.
Chris: We love Florida man.
Music Madness: Will you be releasing another single prior to the album release or are we being teased with only the “Drug That I Need”?
Chris: “Drug That I Need” is the first single that’s coming out. We’re going to be releasing an official music video for it as well that everyone will get to see. And, yah, after that we have our next few singles lined up but this is going to be the first one prior to the release.
Music Madness: Good luck Chris and we look forward to hearing the rest of the new album.
