The digital billboard outside the Hard Rock Live on Tuesday night flashed Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators. The rockers rolled into Orlando for show 17 of 17 on this run of the Living The Dream Tour that started in San Francisco last month. Canadian rockers, Royal Tusk, joined the festivities as the evenings supporting act.
Approaching the venue one could feel the electricity of eager concertgoers, chatting each other up in lines that seemed to lap the venue. As fans filed into the Hard Rock Live and quickly filled the GA floor, it was not surprising to see the amount of GnR t-shirts worn throughout the crowd.
Royal Tusk took the stage early, not very rock ’n’ roll, but greatly appreciated by fans. These hard- working rockers have been on a mission since the release of Tusk II last October, relentlessly touring as they continue their assault on the Billboard charts and venues worldwide.
“I’d wanna see you believe…,” echoed through the speakers as the band’s frontman Daniel Carriere broke into “First Time,” off the Tusk II release. The six song set featured five tunes from their latest record with the exception of “Curse the Weather” from the 2016 album DealBreaker. The band’s set was lively as they made the most of the large stage and it was easy to see why the band’s rise in popularity has grown so quickly. The set ended with the band’s hit “Aftermath” that peaked at #32 on the Billboard charts Mainstream Rock Songs.
Royal Tusk’s current lineup of Daniel Carriere (vocals, guitar), Quinn Cyrankiewicz (guitar), Sandy MacKinnon (bass) and Calen Stuckel (drums) form a solid and seasoned quartet.
Be sure to check out Royal Tusk’s upcoming tour schedule as they team up with Pop Evil in September and join the Shiprocked family in January 2020.
It was time for Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, no fancy lighting or elaborate stage sets to distract from the business of pure rock and roll consisting of clean vocals and riveting guitar riffs. The larger than life rock icon Slash coupled with powerhouse rocker Myles Kennedy were in vintage form Tuesday night.
One would have never known that this show was the last one of the tour. It may have well been the first show as energy levels were sky high and it was evident from the first note that everyone on that stage was ready to rock. No curtains falling, no pyro to ignite the crowd, just Slash in his vintage top hat and black leather pants as he made his way to the front of the drum kit was enough to send fans into a frenzy. The cool mild mannered Myles Kennedy picked up the mic stand, smiling as the band broke into “Call of the Wild.”
The 21-song, two-hour set took on a feel of a Universal ride… strap on your seat belt and it was over before you knew it. There was no time for small talk, just good ole fashion rock and roll containing endless riffs that sucked the audience into a trance and left them wanting more.
As the set was winding down, the venue erupted as the band broke into the lone GnR song of the evening, “Nightrain.” After “Nightrain” Myles and Slash sat at the front of the stage with a single light shining on them for “Starlight.” During “World on Fire,” Myles addresses the crowd, thanking the band and everyone for a great tour as he introduces the band.
The evening and tour concluded with none other than “Anastasia.”
Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators are set to release a new concert film and live album. The Living the Dream Tour captures the band’s performance at London’s legendary Hammersmith Apollo and released through Eagle Vision on 20 September. The film and album are set to be released on DVD+2CD, Blu-ray+2 CD, 3LP Black Vinyl, limited edition 3LP Red Vinyl, digital video and digital audio.
