Sunday, Aug 25th marked the last night of Widespread Panic’s 3-leg sold out show at The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN; not even the rain could not keep the masses away.
Widespread Panic opened the show to a screaming standing ovation to the song “Let’s Get the Show on the Road.” Fans young and old quickly crowded the stage and within seconds of the song starting there was no longer any room to move as the crowds were dancing and swaying throughout the venue. The sound and energy from the band collided into the crowd and they were hypnotized into a frenzy. Even the ASL interpreter Edie Jackson who was on stage interpreting the performance was getting into it.
The song “Life as a Tree” (formerly known as “Sacred Moments”) was quite the treat as it has never been played with the whole band before.
The band was joined on stage in the second set by Todd Snider (Hard Working Americans) to perform “Desperados Waiting for a Train”, “Jesus was a Capricorn” and “The Waker.” This was the first time since 1998 that Snider has joined the band onstage.
As the night came to an end with the encore, John Bell made a comment to the crowd saying “We sure had fun in this party palace”. The crowd could not agree anymore. The show ended with the song titled perfectly for the occasion “End of the Show.”
